About Printing and Publishing

Printing is commonly defined as the art, process, or business of producing printed material. Printing is also described as a process in which an image is reproduced on a surface, such as paper. Many printing and publishing companies accomplish this by means of inked type and a printing press or by similar means. Conventional printing processes routinely use printing plates and presses to produce quantities of the same image. Electronic printing processes normally use digital imaging systems that produce an image in each cycle of the imaging device. Images can be the same or can be changed from cycle to cycle. Companies across many fields use Electronic printing since it is especially suited to products requiring variable information such as utility bills, personalized mail, insurance policies, etc. Publishing goes hand in hand with printing because it is defined as the selection, preparation, and distribution of printed matter including books, newspapers, magazines, and pamphlets. Modern publishing includes digital formats such as CD-ROMs. Challenges in publishing occur with censorship, copyright laws and plagiarism, royalties for authors and commissions for literary agents, and the loss of readers to other media such as television and the Internet.
