About Lighting

The most basic definition of Lighting is the arrangement of a light source to create a certain effect. Lighting or illumination is the deliberate application of light to achieve some aesthetic or practical effect. Also known as, use of an artificial source of light for illumination. Lighting is a key element of architecture and interior design. Home lighting uses mostly either incandescent lamps or fluorescent lamps and often depends on movable fixtures plugged into outlets; built-in lighting is typically found in kitchens, bathrooms, and corridors and in the form of hanging pendants in dining rooms and sometimes recessed fixtures in living rooms. Nonresidential buildings normally use fluorescent lighting. Artificial lighting represents a major component of energy consumption, accounting for a significant part of all energy consumed worldwide. Artificial lighting is normally provided by electric lights, but gas lighting, candles, or oil lamps were used in the historically, and still are used in certain situations. Proper lighting can enhance project performance or aesthetics. Indoor lighting is a form of fixture or furnishing, and a key part of interior design. Lighting fixtures come in a wide variety of styles for various functions. The most important functions are as a holder for the light source, to provide directed light. Some fixtures are very plain, while some are pieces of art in themselves. Lighting is usually classified by intended use as general, localized, or task lighting, depending largely on the distribution of the light produced by the fixture. Fixtures can come in many types such as lamps, pendant lights, recessed lights, under-cabinet lights, track lighting, and sconce or wall mounted fixture. Lighting is also used in various other applications such as car headlamps and interior lighting. Lighting and electrical work should always be performed by a certified electrician. Most Certified Electricians can install, replace, or design lighting features for your home or office.
