HVAC specialists work in the field of climate control and are particularly important in climate control of houses, and buildings of large and small capacity. HVAC is based on the principles of of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer. HVAC employees routinely work on installiation and repair of heating and air conditioning systems. These professionals also write service contracts with individual homes for routine maintainace to existing heating and cooling systems. The functions of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning are closely interrelated in that they seek to provide thermal comfort, acceptable indoor air quality, and reasonable installation, operation, and maintenance costs. HVAC systems can provide ventilation, reduce air infiltration, and maintain pressure relationships between spaces. The HVAC industry is a worldwide enterprise, with career opportunities including operation and maintenance, system design and construction, equipment manufacturing and sales, and in education and research.
