About Drywall and Insulation
Drywall, also known as sheet rock, wallboard, or gypsum board, is a building material typically used for the finish construction of interior ceilings and walls. It is made up of a core layer of gypsum plaster that is pressed between two layers of thick paper which is then kiln dried. It is currently the most popular and fastest type of wall surfacing, surpassing the week-long plaster application used in many older homes. A whole house can be dry walled in a day or two by two experienced drywallers. Drywall is also lighter, cheaper, and stronger than plaster. Building insulation is a broad term referring to anything used as insulation for any purpose in a building. Most building insulation is installed for thermal purposes. However, insulation is also installed for fire, impact, and/or acoustic reasons as well. Different insulation materials are chosen to serve any or all of these purposes.
