About Dentists and Orthodontists
A Dentist is a professional who is responsible for the care of a persons mouth. The main duties of a dentist include, evaluating, diagnosing, preventing and treating conditions of the hard and soft tissues of the jaw, oral cavity, maxillofacial area and other associated components that directly influence the rest of the human body. Dentistry is not only important for the mouth, but for the overall care of the entire body. Other people included in oral health services are dental assistants, dental technicians, dental therapists and dental hygienists.
An Orthodontist is a spinoff of a Dentist in that their primary concern or specialty is the treatment of malocclusions or improper bite, which can be the result of tooth irregularity and or an irregularly shaped jaw. The main focus of an orthodontist is to straighten or align the appearance of a persons jaw or teeth. Dentofacial orthopedics refers to the control and modification of facial growth.
