A porch is an add-on structure that is attached to a residential or commercial building that creates a covered area to that buildings entrance way. The Porch may be enclosed by screen, glass or windows, latticework or some other sort of light frame structure that is attached to the principal building. Porches may vary by size and design are can create an outside lounging area to a building. A deck is a flat, sturdy surface which is like that of a floor, but is primarily constructed for the outdoors and is typically used as an elevated platform that is attached to a building. Decks are typically constructed from wood or timber type materials such as treated lumber, composite material, western red cedar, teak, mahogany or ipe. Patios come from the Spanish tradition of a backyard or back garden area used for recreation of for dining purposes. Patios are typically a stone or concrete type structure that adjoins a residence.
