About Carpenter
The basic definition of a carpenter is a skilled worker who makes, finishes, and repairs wooden objects and structures. Carpenters work with wood to construct, install and maintain various objects. They are skilled in the craft of carpentry. Carpenters are considered skilled laborers who can do a little bit of everything. Carpenters are sometimes referred to as handymen, and usually can build anything that is required. Most certified Carpenters can build a variety of items including; trim and molding, framing, cabinets and countertops, closets, decks, fences, ramps, doors, stairs, sheds and gazebos. Many Carpenters also can perform other tasks such as drywall, gutters, siding and various home improvement needs. Historically, the skill of carpentry is gained through experience and study. Many Carpenter unions exist in the US. Many Carpenters tend to specialize within their craft. The different types of Carpenters are: Finish carpenter, Trim Carpenter, cabinetmaker, ships carpenter (shipbuilding and maintenance), scenic carpenter (film-making and TV scenery and sets), framer (builds skeletal structures or framework), roofer or luthier (Makes or repairs stringed instruments).
