About Automotive Services
A mechanic is a person who uses his hands and/or tools to repair things. Most mechanics are specialized in a particular field such as auto mechanics, bicycle mechanics, boiler mechanics, industrial mechanics, etc. An auto mechanic or car mechanic is a mechanic who specializes in automobile service, repair, and modification. A mechanic should be knowledgeable in working on all parts of a variety of car makes or may specialize either in a specific area or in a specific make of car. General auto mechanics are familiar with a variety of makes and models and can work on most automobiles. In repairing cars, a mechanics main role is to diagnose the problem, quote prices and perform duties as required. With the rapid advancement in technology mechanics utilize both electronic means of gathering data as well as personal experience. Modern vehicles possess complex computer and electronic systems, which require mechanics to be familiar with current technology. Many computer tools exist to assist mechanics in diagnosing modern cars. The term auto mechanic is being replaced by the term automotive service technician due to the advances in the field. Most current mechanics and automobile dealerships provide sophisticated diagnostic computers to each technician, without which they would be able to diagnose or repair electronic issues in modern vehicles. Basic/scheduled maintenance such as oil changing, tire rotation, inspection and check-ups are a fundamental part of a mechanic's work.
